The acting comptroller , Federal Operating Zone A, Hussein Ejibunu has announced plans to send custom personnel to man water areas and creeks in Lagos state as part of efforts to combat smuggling in Southwest. He said this while conducting newsmen round the display of goods seize from smugglers recently.
Ejibune expressed his joy over the success of the operation where hundreds of bags of rice smuggled into the country and making an incursion into Lagos State was detected and the culprits arrested. He explained that the bags of rice were hidden under heavy rolls of cable to divert attention away from the bags of rice away. He said that the decision of custom to send intelligence personnel to be part of its operation no doubt is paying off.
He then added that custom is planning to send its personnel to Lagos creek in other to record more success in its efforts to curb smuggling in the Southwest region. He said similar operation shows a lot of smuggling activities are going on Lagos water ways and Creek areas.
