Despite the raging economic crisis affecting the country, the Federal Government has announced the increase in the tuition fee of newly admitted students of Federal Government Colleges also known as Unity Colleges to N100,000 

The increment came as at the time the country is experiencing economic hardship amidst hikes in petrol.

This was contained in a directive from the Office of the Director of Senior Secondary Education in the Department of the Federal Ministry of Education, reference number ADF/120/DSSE/I, dated 25th May 2023, and addressed to all Principals of Federal Unity Colleges. The new school fee was announced in a circular addressed to all Principals of Federal Unity Colleges. The tuition fee is over 50% increase as students in Unity schools were previously paying N45,000 against the new N100,000.

According to the circular, "Approved fees/ charges for Federal Unity Colleges (1st Term) for new students" signed by the Director of Senior Secondary Education, Hajia Binta Abdulkabir, new students are expected to part with N100,000 instead of the previous 45,000.

"The latest fees/charge increment will affect virtually all aspects and activities of the school, including tuition and boarding fees, uniform, textbooks, deposit, exercise books, prospectus, caution fee, ID card, stationery, clubs and societies, sports, extra lesson, insurance, et al.

“Please be informed that the ministry has approved only the under-listed fees for all Unity Colleges,” the memo read.
