The member representing Ideato North/South Federal constituency in the Green Chamber, who is also the chairman of the Federal House of Representative Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere has strongly declared that the subsidy era in Nigeria will be probed by his committee.

Hon. Ugochinyere while featuring on a TV Political program on Tuesday 8th August, 2023 blew hot while emphasizing that subsidy irregularity is not a criminal offense but treason.  Therefore, his committee is poised at “using the instruments of the Parliament to probe the process of subsidy” which was abused and which according to him is the reason the government removed the subsidy.  He vowed that his committee will look critically into the process.

“We will check if somebody who collected F.S (fuel subsidy), went to offload the fuel at the black market, becoming billionaire overnight.  We will look at that”.

On the challenging task of probing the subsidy era by his committee which is technical and dominated by cabals, he said;

“It is going to be challenging moments, it is going to be tough but, definitely, somebody for once will do it and we intend to do that”.

 “It is a technical industry where all things are not one hundred percent transparent, but we will try as much as possible to use the instruments of parliament to ask those hard questions”.

On the need for the probe, Hon. Ugochinyere explained that  “It will help to recover revenue; and it will serve as deterrent to other people who want to abuse government opportunities making the poor masses suffering at the end of the day.  “We make sure our people are not taken advantage of”.

WE WILL TAKE CARE OF THE OIL PRODUCING COMMUNITIES

Meanwhile, while commenting on the status of the oil producing communities in Nigeria, vis-a-viz the challenges of environmental degradation caused by the activities oil companies, and other forms of marginalization, Hon. Ikenga has declared that attention will be given to those communities.

“The impact of the past government’s investment in these communities” to help them fight the degradation, and for compensation will be probed.

“Some people will answer certain questions.  Books are going to be looked into”. He vowed.
