Police and other security forces have distrupted the attempts by some youths to hold rally in commemoration of the third year of the ground shaking lekki-toll gate killing of the "end Sars rally" protesters on 20th October 2020.

At the early hour of friday 20th October, 2023, a number of few young people seen with a big "end sars" flag have gathered at the Lekki-toll gate to start the rally but were stopped by the police and other security personnel. Attempt by the protesting youths who were peaceful and orderly to address the media was also thwarted by the security men as they were not allowed to stay on a spot but was told to Leave and march on.

It will be recalled that Nigeria shook to its foundation with the "end Sars" protests all over the country in October 2020. Protesting against the injustice, extra judicial killing and high-handedness of the officials of the disbanded unit of the Nigerian police, SARS, mamooth youths took to all the streets in almost all the major towns and cities of the country, protesting for several days.

However, on the 20th October 2020, youths who gathered at the Lekki-toll gate, Lagos Island in the evening hours of that day were attacked, with many of them shot dead by unknown soldiers who still remain unidentifiable even three years after.
This singular event left a sour experience with the generality of the youths who felt frustrated for such treatment when they thought the only thing they were doing was to protest against their insecure status in the hands of government security unit.
Thereafter, so many things played out in the saga that left indelible marks on the minds of the youths. The reason they still come out each year to rally in memory of the event and those young people whose lives were caught short by the bullets from the guns of the government security personnel who are paid to secure them.
One of the major player of the 2020 protests, Mr. Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr. Maccaroni was conspicously sighted among the youths this morning voicing his disappointment with the security men as they walk away from the toll gate with the police on their heels.
The youths were already at a distance from the Lekki-toll gate at the time of filling this report.
