WE HAVE NOT CALLED OFF THE STRIKE, WE HAVE ONLY RELAXED ACTIONS FOR ONE WEEK – LABOUR
The strike is only relaxed for a week

The Nigerian Labour Congress through it's president Joe Ajaero has explained that the strike embarked upon by the Labour on Monday 3rd June has not been suspended but that the Labour has only relaxed actions to allow the ongoing negotiation with the federal government to go smoothly.

The Labour president said this while speaking to news men on Tuesday 4th June. He further explained that this became necessary because of the outcome of the "mediatory meeting" that held "yesterday".

According to him, the issue will now be reverted to the appropriate organs that discusses wages and that the two parties, the Nigerian Labour Congress and the federal government have gone back to the status quo which is the #60,000 minimum wage the federal government offerred and the Labour's #497,000 request. Based on this, the Labour leader believed that the two parties should be able to reach an agreement, else, there will be another stalemate.

He was however optimistic that the negotiations will be fruitful as the agreement signed on Monday 3rd June showed that the federal government is committed to moving beyond the initial offer of #60,000 and hoped the two parties can meet at the middle.

Ajaero further explained that before now, , "negotiation looked as if it was going to be Infinito, but the outcome yesterday showed that it can be completed within one week". Hence, the one week relaxation of the (industrial) action.

The question now on the lips of Nigerians is if the two parties will be able to reach a truce, and if the truce can be reached, within a week..
