Hon. Edison Ehie who is the present, though controversial Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly has released a statement in which he stated that he narrowly escape an assassination attempt on him as some armed men visited his house on Sunday 19th November, 2022.
This statement was released through Ken Uchendu who is the Legislative Correspondent in the state assembly. The statement however revealed the identities of the armed men whom the statement said were thugs, accompanied by policemen.
It will be recalled that the recent fight between the Rivers State Governor, Fubara and the immediate past Governor who is now the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike had thrown the state into a frenzy as people who align with both parties slugged it out with each other and each trying to wrettle away the control of the state. It was in the midst of this chaos that Edison Ehie, who represents the Ahoada constituency announced himself Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly last month shortly after some lawmakers removed him as leader of the house in a crisis that followed the burning of the Assembly complex.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police commissioner, Tunji Disu, says what happened at the home of the lawmaker, Edison Ehie, Sunday night was a routine police patrol and not an assassination attempt. CP Disu said this to journalists at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The CP, has however, asked the lawmaker to help them with any other information about the incident, obviously, to establish that a crime or an attempt at a crime was made.
