Business owners in Nigeria have cried out as they experience harder Economic activities in the face of the absence of power in most regions of the country as a result of the shutting down of the national grid by Labour Union.

It will be recalled that as a fall between the Federal government and the Nigerian Labour Union over the new minimum wage, Labour has warned it will start a national strike on Monday 3rd June, 2024.
In a bid to send a stronger signal to the federal government, Labour Union had gone ahead to shut down the national grid to signal the beginning of the industrial action.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria in a released statement says "the Labour union has shut down the national grid, resulting in a blackout as a nationwide strike begins.
According to the statements, the national grid shutdown occurred at about 2.19 am Monday, 3rd June 2024.

The statement further stated that "the shutdown started from the Benin transmission operator to other substations in Ganmo, Benin, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba and Osogbo.

As a result of the blackout, economic activities have been grounded for lack of source of public generated power.

According to our correspondents, the most hit activities are that of manufacturing companies, filling stations, banks and most especially, artisans who depend majorly on the public source of power.

According to some owners of business who spoke to our correspondents, the shutting down of the national grid by the union is not in the interest of businesses as business owners are now forced to seek for self generating power options which come at a rate that can kill businesses.

However, TCN says it is on its feet to provide succour to Nigerians by finding means of getting power across to Nigerians. At about 3.23 am today Monday, 3rd June, TCN says it has commenced grid recovery, using the Shiroro Substation to attempt to feed the transmission lines supplying bulk electricity to the Katampe Transmission Substation.

TCN assures that it will sustain efforts in recovering and stabilizing the grid to ensure the restoration of normal bulk transmission of electricity to distribution load centres nationwide.
